Description

While Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH) continues to gain popularity around the United States, questions remain on the care delivered within the model. Is PCBH meant solely for mild to moderate concerns seen in primary care, with a focus on algorithmic interventions delivered to address a single concern? Or, can care delivered in PCBH be radical, address the vast majority of concerns seen in primary care, regardless of complexity? This presentation will focus on how a Single Session mindset and approach, paired with a functional contextualism philosophy, can allow care delivered in PCBH to be anything but superficial and sterile. Specifically, the presentation will provide the rationale for a moment-at-a-time care and how a contextual framework can allow care delivered to be rewarding for both clinicians and patients. Further, examples of visit structure and conceptualization will be provided.

Session Type
Concurrent
Objective 1
Describe a Single Session, or a moment-at-a-time mindset and how this approach matches the goal of PCBH and High Quality primary care well
Objective 2
Describe functional contextualism as a philosophy and how it provides parsimony to the work of primary care and PCBH
Objective 3
Apply a functional contextualist and single session approach of ACCESS-V, which allows care delivered in PCBH to dynamic and embrace any level of complexity in primary care
