David Newton is a licensed professional counselor in the state of Georgia. He earned his degree in Psychology from Georgia State University and a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University in Los Angeles, CA. He has been licensed for over 25 years working with individuals with mental health and/or substance use disorders. He also obtained post licensure certification as a Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor (CPCS) and a Certified Masters Addiction Counselor (CMAC). Currently, Mr. Newton is the Director of Behavioral Health for the Georgia Association for Primary Health Care, Inc. (GAPHC). In this position, he supports FQHCs in Georgia with behavioral health integration into primary care. He serves as a subject matter expert on mental health and substance use disorders clinical best practices, monitors quality measures outcome data, and supports process improvement recommendations. Mr. Newton facilitates the behavioral health workgroup that assists clinical behavioral health leads in training, policy, and quality measures to ensure all individuals receive high-quality, integrated primary and behavioral health care.
Prior to his current position, Mr. Newton served as the Executive Director for an outpatient clinic providing clinical treatment to adults and adolescents dealing with mental health and/or substance use disorders. He has supported Georgia’s DBHDD implementation of the Georgia Families 360 program and collaborated closely with the system of care through the Community Service Boards (CSBs). Mr. Newton is driven to support the whole health and wellness of all individuals. In his private time, he enjoys hiking, biking and spending time with his family in the North Georgia mountains.
