Many clinicians find it difficult to address psychological flexibility (PF) while engaging in a conversation with a patient. Skills related to directing a conversation, assessing PF, and intervening to promote PF at the same time require practice. The FACT Contextual Interview provides a structure having a conversation, social in nature, with a person and, at the same time, connecting with the psychological flexibility that person has available to them in that moment. In this webinar, learners will observe a contextual interview and use the PAT worksheet to identify moments when the clinician attempts to enhance PF by enhancing awareness during the conversation. Learners will also enact roleplays based case descriptions and practice using specific strategies to enhance present moment experience in both the clinician and the patient while developing a functional understanding of a problem or issue.
Objectives
After the webinar, participants will be able to:
- Provide examples of promoting present moment awareness in clinical conversations.
