Our postdoctoral fellowship is designed to provide in-depth training in the Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH) model, with fellows serving as Behavioral Health Consultants (BHCs) in our family practice and pediatric primary care centers. As part of the primary care team, BHCs manage behavioral and biopsychosocial health issues, providing same-day, high-volume services to patients of all ages. Their role includes collaborating closely with primary care providers, improving assessments, care coordination, and overall team efficiency. BHCs also educate the team on biopsychosocial approaches, making integrated behavioral health a team-based, routine part of care.

In addition to direct patient care, our fellows engage in training activities designed to make them ready to take on roles and responsibilities common for psychologists working in primary care. Fellows will receive training and experience as leaders implementing the PCBH model, will assist in training our family medicine residents in behavioral science, will provide clinical supervision of graduate students under the umbrella of their own supervisor, and will engage in quality improvement and program development through development of their postdoc project.
