Speaker Short Bio
Dr. Mario Venegas is a Health Services Research (HSR) Fellow at the Center for Innovations in Quality, Effectiveness, and Safety (IQuESt) in Houston, TX and a Fellow for the National Center for Homelessness Among Veterans (NCHAV). He is a sociologist by training with expertise in qualitative research methods and is expanding his quantitative skills to become a mixed methods expert. His work at IQuESt helps him extend and apply his methodological skills to examine programs that can help retain healthcare workers and address staffing issues in VA programs. Dr. Venegas’ research lines examine the following topics: (1) the effects of (Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PCMH-I) on Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) burnout and turnover; (2) adapting qualitative data collection methods for busy clinicians using asynchronous tools; and (3) exploring how transportation and other social factors like housing programs impact the health needs of Veterans who experience and have experienced homelessness.
