Kelly R. Morton received her Ph.D. in Lifespan Developmental Psychology from Bowling Green State University in 1992. She is a professor and the Director of Research in the Department of Family Medicine at the School of Medicine at Loma Linda University (LLU). She is core faculty in the Family Medicine residency program within the LLU Health Education Consortium. She is a professor and core faculty in the LLU APA accredited clinical psychology Ph.D. program and associated faculty in the APA accredited clinical psychology Psy.D. program in the Department of Psychology at the School of Behavioral Health. Dr. Morton has published 46 peer reviewed articles, authored 250 professional presentations, 20 invited talks and workshops and has been funded in 45 state and federal grants. Her work focuses on stress and coping, particularly after adverse childhood experiences to highlight the downstream effects on mental and physical health outcomes with particular focus on health behavior risks. She has helped develop and implement health and integrated care training curricula in both psychology and family medicine and currently facilitates 5 interprofessional quality improvement teams in an underserved Federally Qualified Health Center. Dr. Morton is committed to providing primary care and integrated behavioral health in the state of California where the numbers of psychologists have been decreasing for a decade and where many Californians live in a mental health provider shortage area. Through funding initiatives, the programs at LLU graduate 9 family physicians and 27 psychologists annually who are trained in integrated mental and behavioral health.
