Dr. Cully is a clinical psychologist and health services researcher with expertise in the development, testing, implementation, and scaling of evidence-based psychological interventions. He is particularly interested in the application of brief evidence-based psychotherapy interventions outside traditional mental health clinics – namely, primary care, specialty medical care, and rural/community care settings. He has served as PI on numerous VA multisite clinical trials focusing on pragmatic randomized trials, implementation studies, and scaling projects related to cognitive and behavioral interventions. In addition, he has served as a co-investigator on NIH and VA behavioral intervention trials targeting the treatment of medically ill and/or primary care patient populations. A major thrust of the work he conducts focuses on partnerships and collaborative inquiry involving Veterans, providers, and leaders at the local, regional, and national-levels to improve access to and delivery of high-quality, brief evidence-based psychotherapies (EBPs). Over the past 5 years, he and his team have been particularly invested in finding ways to improve access to high quality mental health interventions for rural and other underserved Veteran populations.
