Virmarie Díaz Fernández, MD, FAPA, is a board-certified psychiatrist and Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association with more than eight years of clinical experience in general psychiatry, telepsychiatry, integrated behavioral health, and medical leadership. She is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is bilingual in Spanish and English.
Dr. Díaz Fernández currently serves as National Medical Director of Psychiatry at Concert Health, where she provides clinical and strategic leadership for psychiatric services embedded in collaborative care models across diverse healthcare settings. She partners with multidisciplinary teams to strengthen psychiatric consultation, clinical quality, care pathways, and access to evidence-based behavioral health care within primary care and other medical settings. Her work focuses on building sustainable, patient-centered systems that support timely treatment, measurement-based care, and coordinated management of complex psychiatric and medical needs.
Her leadership experience spans clinical operations, program development, quality improvement, workforce support, and organizational strategy. She has served in roles including Medical Director, Regional Medical Lead, Clinical Advisor, and Supervising Physician. Across these positions, she has provided clinical oversight; developed and implemented care models, workflows, and standards; supported clinician recruitment, training, mentorship, and supervision; and collaborated with operational and executive leaders to expand high-quality psychiatric and integrated behavioral health services. She has also advised organizations developing and scaling behavioral health programs, particularly those serving complex and historically underserved populations.
Dr. Díaz Fernández earned her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine. She completed her psychiatry residency at the University of Central Florida/HCA Healthcare GME Consortium in Gainesville, Florida, where she served as Chief Resident during her final two years of training. She is also a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.
Her additional training and certifications include Perinatal Mental Health through Postpartum Support International (PSI), WPATH, Nutritional Psychiatry, Mindfulness, and Addiction Medicine. Her clinical expertise includes women’s and perinatal mental health, minority mental health, LGBTQ+ affirming care, integrative psychiatry, and substance use disorders. She has extensive experience in addiction medicine, including the treatment of complex co-occurring psychiatric and substance use conditions, medication-assisted treatment, and care for patients across inpatient, outpatient, and integrated behavioral health settings.
