José González is the Program Manager for the Zero Suicide Program within the Department of Community Initiatives and Population Health at University Health, where he leads suicide prevention initiatives across South Texas. Since joining University Health in 2018, he has overseen the implementation and expansion of the Zero Suicide framework, improving patient outcomes, strengthening referral pathways, and advancing workforce education and training. In 2022, he assumed leadership of the SAMHSA-funded Opioid Treatment and Recovery Services (OTRS) Program, connecting individuals across Texas Public Health Region 8 to medication for opioid use disorder, treatment, and recovery support services. He also leads the implementation of the CDC-funded Comprehensive Suicide Prevention Blueprint for Adult and Youth (CoSPLAY) initiative in Bexar County, expanding suicide prevention services and strengthening community partnerships. With more than 15 years of experience in community mental health and population health, José has dedicated his career to improving outcomes for underserved and vulnerable populations through leadership in behavioral health, substance use treatment, housing stability, and community-based systems of care.
