Speaker Short Bio
Marci Nielsen, PhD, MPH is a nationally recognized health policy leader whose career spans Capitol Hill, state government, organized labor, academia, and national health care associations — all united by a single purpose: making the health system work better for the people who need it and the professionals who deliver it. She began her career as a health staffer for U.S. Senator Bob Kerrey, went on to lead Kansas' $2.3 billion Medicaid agency under Governor Kathleen Sebelius, and served as health lobbyist for the AFL-CIO before spending five years as CEO of the Primary Care Collaborative, where she led a national multi-stakeholder coalition to promote integrated whole person primary care. She served as faculty and Vice Chancellor for Public Affairs at the University of Kansas Medical Center and led Kansas' COVID-19 response as Chief Advisor to Governor Laura Kelly. Today, Marci leads PolicyPRN Consulting where she is directing the Triple Double Primary Care Campaign in partnership with the American Academy of Family Physicians and the National Association of Community Health Centers, a state-by-state national initiative to double the investment in primary care, double patient access - beginning with CHC's, and double the workforce pipeline and to make primary care the foundation of the U.S. health system. A former Peace Corps volunteer and U.S. Army Reservist, Marci holds a PhD in Health Policy and Management from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, an MPH from George Washington University, and a BS in Biology and Psychology from Briar Cliff College.
