As one of the first fellows in the first cohort for the Post Graduate Behavioral Health Fellowship at a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), Demetrius Smith joined the fellowship for a new opportunity to expand his reach, and strengthen clinical knowledge, skills, and experience in Washington, District of Columbia. He is originally from New Jersey, area code 609, and excited to serve adults across multiple backgrounds in primary care, infectious disease / HIV/AIDS, LGBTQIAA, unhoused, substance/alcohol use/abuse/misuse, and geriatrics. Demetrius is known for ensuring that not only he, but his behavioral health team adheres to the Social Work ethics around self-care. Demetrius enjoys swimming, gardening/plants, and playing chess in his spare time.

Demetrius holds a Master of Social Work (MSW) from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey and recently completed a post-masters Certified Addictions Counselor (CAC) certification through a tuition fully funded federal grant from District of Columbia Department of Behavioral Health via Catholic Charities Institute- Professional Counseling Education Program.
