Mattoon native Kim Uphoff serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of Sarah Bush Lincoln. Since becoming CEO in 2022, she has led the organization through a period of continued growth, leveraging her deep ties to the community and longstanding knowledge of the Health System.
She has 28 years of healthcare leadership experience in the non-profit hospital sector and leads the $800M, two-hospital system serving downstate Illinois. Kim serves on the Mid-America Vizient Healthcare Network Board, the BJC Healthcare Collaborative Board, and has been elected to serve on the Illinois Health and Hospital Association Board.
Kim is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the University of Saint Francis with a master’s in healthcare administration. She is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Kim has been a champion of the Health System’s culture of service excellence since its implementation in 2007 leading the organization to hardwire excellent service resulting in numerous measured care areas ranking above the 75th percentile annual.
Kim has been employed by the Health Center since 1998 and joined the Administrative Team in 2010 as the Vice President of the Health Foundation and subsequently served as the Vice President of Development and Vice President of Operations. Prior to her executive leadership roles, Kim served as the Director of Planning and Business Development, where she was responsible for marketing, research and certificate-of-need requirements.
She has had the unique opportunity and distinct pleasure to serve out her career in her hometown of Mattoon. Kim contributes her time to helping local organizations improve the quality of life and advance economic development throughout the region. Her leadership includes serving as Past President of the Coles County United Way Board, Mattoon Rotary Club, a 4-H volunteer, served on the Effingham Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the Effingham Regional Alliance for Growth Board of Directors, and is a member of the First Baptist Church.
Kim lives in rural Mattoon with her husband, Bill, who farms. They have two adult children, Jake and Maggie. Jake and his wife, Hannah, are the parents of their first grandchild. Kim and her family have deep roots in the region and remain committed to supporting the communities Sarah Bush Lincoln serves.
