Patricia Huerta, PhD, MS, LMFT, is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine in the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University (ECU). Dr. Huerta is a licensed marriage and family therapist in North Carolina, with advanced clinical training in integrated behavioral health in primary care settings, gender identity and sexual health, and suicide prevention in adolescents and young adults. In addition to providing psychotherapy and integrated behavioral health services to patients at ECU’s Family Medicine Center, Dr. Huerta facilitates didactic and experiential trainings for the clinic’s behavioral health consultants (BHC), which include doctoral-level psychology and doctoral-level and master’s-level marriage and family therapy students, and family medicine residents and offers clinical supervision to BHCs. Dr. Huerta completed her PhD in Human Development and Family Studies with a specialization in Couple and Family Therapy at Michigan State University (MSU) and her Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy at ECU. Dr. Huerta’s research interests include integrated primary care, the Collaborative Care Model (CoCM), gender-affirming care, sexual health, and suicide prevention.
